Confusing crush? What his texts really mean

We get it. Putting down your phone for a sec is next to impossible, especially when you're texting your crush. Sure, seeing his name flash up on your phone is the highlight of your day. But since you can’t hear the tone of his voice, it can get super frustrating trying to decode what he means. Here are some examples of how to avoid a freak-out in different sitches.

One-word texts

You: “Hey! How was your day? We should hang out later.”

Him: “Good and sure.”

Your First Thought: OMG he doesn’t like me. Why can’t he tell me more about what he did today? And does OK mean we will hangout later?

What He Means: He literally means that he had a good day. Nothing exciting or worth taking the time to type happened. He would rather just talk about it in person if there is anything to talk about. And if he said he wanted to hang out, he meant it.

Vague texts

You: “What did you do last night?”

Him: “I had fun!”

Your First Thought: What could he have possibly done that was so fun? Who else was he with and why didn’t he ask me to come? Ugh, I hate when he’s so vague!

What He Means: He had a chill night with his buds or fam. Best way to find out is to ask a follow-up question, like, “Awesome! Did you go anywhere cool?” Just be sure not to sound jealous, OK?

"We need to talk" text

Him: “Hey what are you doing later? I wanna talk.”

Your First Thought: What’s wrong? Why does he need to talk and can’t tell me now? Does he want to break up?

What He Means: Wanting to talk in person isn’t always a bad thing. Who knows? It might be something positive or too long to text. Just don’t freak out until you get the whole story.

No texts

You: “Hey dude!”

Five minutes later:

You: "…helloo?”

Ten minutes later:

You: “Is everything OK?”

Your First Thought: Why is he ignoring me? What did I do?

What He Means: Most of the time he isn’t ignoring you on purpose. And if he is, shooting off a dozen texts will only make it worse. But if he’s not, just remember that not every guy is attached to his phone. He could be watching TV, hanging out with this dad or taking a nap. That’s your cue to put down the phone and go enjoy life.
