The last 5 things you want to do on a date

They always say that first impressions count, especially the ones made on first dates. When you’re with a guy you’re really crushing on, the last thing you want to make the date come to a screeching halt. Follow these rules and you’ll steer clear of any first date mishaps.

Rule #1: Dress cute, but not trashy.

You’re on a date with a guy, which means he likes you for who you are, so dress like yourself! Don’t suddenly wear a low cut shirt to please him, because he might not be into it. If you’re not sure what to wear, jeans and a cute tee are always a good bet.

Rule #2: Put down your phone.

There’s nothing more annoying than trying to talk to someone who will not put down the phone. It’s fine to shoot a quick reply to your ‘rents if they’re wondering where you are, but avoid lengthy convos. Otherwise, your date might think you don’t like him.

Rule #3: Don’t bring up the ex.

Talking about someone who you have history with makes it seem like you’re not over your ex, which will make your new guy less interested. Focus on the boy you’re on a date with, and don’t ask him about his past GFs either!

Rule #4: Don’t eat anything too leafy.

We all dread it: getting something stuck in our teeth. Try to avoid foods that are leafy and green or have a lot of seeds. If you’re really craving that salad, though, be sure to pack a little mirror in your bag. Pretend to drop something and then sneak a quick peek at those pearly whites.

Rule #5: Don’t be mean!

You still don’t know a lot of his likes and dislikes. So when you casually say that you hate baseball, he might be a little hurt you bashed his favorite sport. Try to avoid the words “hate”, “always” and “never” on first dates—you don’t want to seem like closed off to heading to a ballgame with him. Who knows, it might be more fun than you thought!
