5 ways to glam-ify your hot chocolate this winter

Hot chocolate—AKA winter's staple beverage. Although we know and love this Christmas classic, it's easy to get tired of the same old recipe. Here are 5 fresh and flavorful ways to up your hot chocolate game:

1. Salted caramel swirl
Start out with your standard hot chocolate recipe, like this one from Bon Appétit. Then, stir in a tablespoon (and save some to drizzle later) of store-bought caramel sauce. Top with whipped cream, caramel drizzle, and a sprinkle of sea salt.

2. Peppermint pizazz
There's a couple of ways to incorporate some candy-cane flavors into your hot chocolate. If you're going for bold flavor, adding a few drops of peppermint oil to your mug is the way to go. Otherwise, grab a candy cane and use it to stir your hot chocolate and you're guaranteed some minty essence. Don't forget the marshmallows, either!

3. Coffee kick
For this extra dose of caffeine, all you need is a teaspoon or two of instant coffee. Stir it into your hot chocolate and you've got the perfect pick-me-up! Once again, don't forget the whipped cream or marshmallows.

4. Pop of color
For this fun upgrade, search your grocery store for any colored marshmallows and sprinkles. Prepare your hot chocolate and then add these colorful toppings! This recipe is perfect for any time of year and is a hit at birthday parties.

5. Spice it up
Keep those spicy fall flavors alive during the winter months by adding a pinch of nutmeg and a pinch of cinnamon to your hot chocolate. Take it a step further by adding a cinnamon stick to stir with.
