Abby's apple brown betty

This Apple Brown Betty recipe is a family favorite of GL intern Abby Lyon. It’s super quick and easy, perf for those fab autumn days when you want to spend more time with fam and friends than slaving over your dessert du jour.

Ingredients:

Apple Brown Betty [six servings]
4 cups soft bread (cubed)
1/3 cup butter or margarine, melted
4 cups sliced and peeled granny smith apples
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/4 cup water

Directions:

1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 2-quart casserole dish. In medium-size bowl, combine bread cubes and butter. Mix well!
2. In another medium-size bowl, toss together apples, brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle with lemon juice.
3. Layer 1/3 of the bread cubes in prepared casserole, then 1/2 of the apple mixture. Repeat the layers, ending with bread cubes. Sprinkle with water and put the dish in the oven.
4. Bake 1 hour or until golden brown. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream. Serves six!
