The *best* homemade hummus recipes for your next snack

 

Whether you have a stack of algebra homework to do or are headed to volleyball practice, every girl needs a little mid-day fuel to keep her going. The key to a delicious (and nutritious) snack? A good balance of protein and carbs. One tasty option is hummus paired with raw veggies like carrots and sliced bell peppers, pita chips or whole wheat crackers. Here are three easy homemade hummus recipes you can whip up in minutes next week when you get home from school:

 

Simple Hummus

Ingredients:

- 1 can chickpeas, drained
- 2-4 Tbsp water 
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 clove of garlic, minced
- 3/4 tsp cumin 

Directions: 

1. Add all ingredients to a food processor and blend until smooth and creamy.  Add salt if needed.

2. Cover and store in the refrigerator.

Sun Dried Tomato Basil Hummus

Ingredients:

- 1 can chickpeas, drained
- 1/3 cup sun dried tomatoes, drained 
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- 3 Tbsp lemon juice
- 2 Tbsp tahini
- 1 clove garlic
- 2 Tbsp fresh basil 

Directions:

1.  Add all ingredients (except basil) and blend. Add in 2 Tbsp water as needed for creaminess.

2. Add in basil and pulse just until blended.

3. Cover and store in refrigerator.

Edamame Hummus

Ingredients:

- 1  cup edamame, shelled
- 3 1/2 Tbsp tahini
- 3 Tbsp water
- 2 Tbsp lemon juice
- 2 Tbsp canola oil
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped
- 1/4 tsp onion powder 

Directions:

1. Combine all ingredients in food processor until creamy.

2. Cover and store in refrigerator.
