How to make the tastiest chocolate peppermint scones

A chocolate and peppermint combo is basically the essence of any Christmas-y treat. These decadent, delightful scones are a great dessert after a dinner...plus, scones are totally an acceptable breakfast food too!

Ingredients:

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup whole wheat (or regular) pastry flour
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup butter, cubed and chilled
3/4 cup vanilla yogurt
1/2 cup buttermilk (learn how to make your own here)
1 egg
1 tsp peppermint extract
1 cup bittersweet chocolate baking chips
1 Tbsp sugar
2 ounces bittersweet chocolate, melted
1/4 cup crushed peppermint candy

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Combine the first six ingredients in a large bowl, and then cut in the butter until the mixture resemble coarse crumbs. In a separate bowl, whisk together the yogurt, buttermilk, egg and extract. Combine the dry and wet mixture and stir in the baking chips.

2. Knead the dough on a floured surface about ten times. Halve the dough, and put each piece on a greased baking sheet. Pat each into a six inch circle, and cut into six equal pieces (don't separate them!).

3. Sprinkle the sugar on top and bake for 18-20 minutes at 400 degrees. Cool them slightly, drizzle the melted chocolate on top and sprinkle the peppermint candies.
