We Tried It: Going vegetarian for a day

Going veg isn't as hard as it seems. Try trading in bacon and burgers for a day you might end up liking the veggie way of life better!

To get started on your meat-fee day, have a protein-rich breakfast of whole wheat toast and peanut butter. Many vegetarians still eat dairy and egg products, but vegans don't eat anything that comes from animals. So depending on what you want to do, add either eggs or a piece of fruit, like an orange or a grapefruit, to make your breakfast complete.

If you usually eat lunch in the caf, trade in your turkey sammie for black bean burrito and a side salad or a whole-wheat pita and hummus. It's easy to eat a lot of junk food when you don't eat meat (French fries are veggie!), so make sure you're still steering clear of the battered and fried stuff.

Opt for yummy after-school snacks, like a plain yogurt with cut fruit or almonds. Oatmeal, carrots and hummus or apples and nut butter all make awesome snacks.

For din, pass by the pasta (you could nosh that any day!) and make your fam a veggie meal they'll heart. We like this paella, quinoa with chick peas and tomatoes, stir-fry or something Indian, like chana masala. Why not branch out, babe?
