Eat Right

Fuel up right with these post-workout eats

You come into the kitchen after a hard workout, and you’re starved. It’s a good idea to have a snack 30 to 60 minutes after exercise anyway. You wanna reach for those brownies on the counter, but that’ll undo everything ya just did! So what are the best foods that’ll fill you up without nixing all your healthy efforts?

Self-Serve Smoothie

Whip up a banana and yogurt smoothie. The yogurt has protein to help ya build lean muscle and also packs lots of calcium for your bones. Using bananas means your muscles will recover better and you’ll have less problems with cramps. Plus the carbs will give you a boost of energy after all that hard work ya just did.

Speedy Sandwich

Slapping together a sandwich will get ya just about everything your bod needs to be healthy. Sandwiches pack protein to build muscle, and you can add veggies for some extra vitamins. Use whole grain bread to get fiber, and make sure the meat is low sodium, since lunchmeats tend to get a bit too salty. Slip some cheese on there, too, for calcium and added protein.

Omelet Egg-celence

We heart eggs because they’re the best type of protein for your bod. They have all the essential amino acids, and if ya just eat one, you won’t have to worry that it’ll up your cholesterol too much. Throw some veggies and cheese into your omelet for even more vitamins and minerals.

See With Sweet Potatoes

These little spuds have tons of vitamin A, which keeps your eyes healthy, and they’ve got vitamin C, too. There are lots of different ways you can cook ‘em, so there’s no danger of getting bored. Top one off with protein by sprinkling some cheese or putting a li’l brown sugar and chopped walnuts on it.

Orange You Glad We Didn’t Say Banana?

Peeling oranges is time-consuming, but they’re just so sweet! Plus your hands will smell delish after. The vitamin C in oranges will keep your muscles from aching, and since they’ve got carbs, your energy levels will be back up in no time.

The Light Side of Dark Chocolate

If you’re really craving dessert, a few squares of dark chocolate are the best thing you can munch on. Their antioxidants will lower cholesterol and keep your heart healthy. You’ll get plenty of sugary energy, too. Just remember to keep your sweet tooth in check, and don’t eat too much. Try dabbing on a li’l peanut butter or stir it into some trail mix to fill up on protein.

So divas, what kinds of foods do you grab when your energy is down and ya wanna get your vitamin levels up?
