HEALTHY YOU Q's: Scale Scare

Q. I have always been slim, but now that I’m twelve I am gaining weight at a fast pace. My mom says I am about to start my period, but I am not so sure. I have been eating snacks more. Do I need to cut down on the food?

A. Your mom’s probably right. When girls go through puberty, they can go through spurts where they gain weight pretty quickly, and may find themselves hungrier than usual. But definitely don’t cut back on the food. You body needs the fuel so you can continue to grow and develop in your most healthy way. Puberty means lots of new and sometimes scary changes to your bod, but trust us, what you’re going through is completely normal.
