Healthy Kids Survey: Fast Food Facts

Who knew that hittin’ the books next to a Mickey D’s could be bad for ya?

Turns out, attending school near a fast food joint has been proven to have a whopping impact on child obesity, according to an article on reuters.com. In a recent study involving 500,00 students in the California Healthy Kids Survey, results showed that approximately 28% of kids were above average weight and about 12% were struggling with obesity. The kicker was that over half of the students surveyed went to school within half a mile of their fave food hangouts!

Studies have also shown that kids opt to drink more soda and stay away from veggies and fruits if they can simply walk to a nearby Burger King for a quick lunch.

Sure, everyone totally craves a melted cheeseburger with a side of fries every now and again, but that doesn’t mean it should be a daily treat. Do you think fast food restaurants should be able to set up shop near schools? Do you eat lunch in the caf or dash out for chicken fingers?
