Uh Oh: Nutrition Labels Aren't Always Right

When it comes to food labels, what you see is not always what you get.

A new study reported by The Washington Post has found that meals from restaurants, fast food places and frozen dinners from grocery stores all have dramatically higher calorie counts than what companies put on the label.

Frozen foods were found to be eight percent fattier than what’s listed, and meals from restaurants (formal or fast food) are a whopping 18 percent higher. Why is this? Companies usually don’t count the calories of the side dishes that come with the main entrée.

It’s important to remember that eating out is a treat—and that even the so-called healthier options aren’t always as heart-friendly as they seem. The healthiest meals are def the ones you can DIY at home. A nutritious diet is one that’s loaded with fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats and whole grains.

Opting for whole, healthy foods is always better than picking something from a restaurant or the freezer aisle—even if the label says it's healthy!
