In the News: You got it from your mama

You've heard it for years, from those random passersby that say you look just like your mother and even from songs (remember Will.I.Am's "I Got it From My Mama"?)  But just how much can you expect to inherit from your Mom? It's expected that growing girlies like you can look to your mother and see a general idea of what your bod will end up looking like, but an article from Women's Health Magazine's Margaret Renkl says otherwise: what you see in your Mom can only take you so far.

It's true that genetics play a huge role in determining your size and shape: about 80 percent.  But, don't let that high percentage fool you, recent studies have proven that environment and your own decisions are just as important.  Certain circumstances that were true for your Mama may not be true for you.  In the end, you can beat the battle by keeping your eating and exercising habits in good shape.  They say, "old habits die hard," so why not get in the game early on so those good auto-pilot decisions stick around for life?

Not to mention, not all of what you end up with comes from the female side of the gene pool.  You are a 50-50 combination of both your Ma and your Pa.  Your metabolic rate, ability to build muscle mass, places where your body stores those extra pounds, and even your appetite ALL come from the qualities your parents contribute.

What do you think, babes, is this total bogus or a definite truth? Does having an idea of your future bod soothe those nagging curiosities?
