Oh, Christmas tree! Why pines make ya feel oh-so good

Ever walked past a true-blue Christmas tree—or a forest populated by pines—and just felt instantly better? It’s not your mind playing merry little tricks on you. It’s the trees.

The essential oils present in evergreens like balsam, silver fir, spruce and other pine trees have stress-relieving properties. Taking a stroll through a Christmas tree farm can soothe your nerves in seconds, but so can parking it by your own tree. Inhale deeply, hold your breath for a few seconds, then exhale slowly.

No tree in sight? No worries! Head to a health food store and pick up some pine-derived essential oils. A quick whiff, a few drops on your pillow or a steaming-hot towel to place over your face will bust your holiday stress in no time flat.
