Winter sports to try over break

Winter break is here. FINALLY. Sure, ya could park it on the couch all week. Or you could dive into one of the winter sports topping our must-do list this season. Whether you're waltzing through a winter wonderland or just slogged through a green Christmas, here are our picks for some serious vacay fun with friends and fam.
Ice skating
Head to the rink you haven't been to since your bestie's birthday party a bajillion years ago, strap on those rental skates and hit the ice! Bonus? It's a perfect group outing...or a date with the dude you've been eying for ages.
Hockey
Check out the bulletin board at the rink for a pick up league schedule. Or better yet, form a team or two with some friends! Even if you stick to a nearby cul-de-sac or basketball court, you'll still have a blast.
Skiing and snowboarding
Nothing is more fun than spending a day hitting the slopes. Living in a warmer climate? Check to see if there are any indoor places nearby!
Snowshoeing and hiking
Check out the wildlife by walking trails near you home with some friends. If you have tons of snow on the ground be sure to get snowshoes!
Snow rugby or football
The Superbowl isn’t until February and we’ve got a ton of time left in the season. Get your friends and family together for a game, and it’s so much fun in the snow! Just make sure you dress warmly.
Snowball fight
Better book it babe, 'cause it's time for a snowball fight! Team up with pals--girls vs. guys, perhaps?--or make it every gal for herself. Um, bonus? The obligatory hot chocolate when ya come inside!

Tobogganing
Running up the hill and racing down on a sled can be totally exhausting, but so. Much. Fun.
Polar bear plunge
It doesn’t matter where you are, jumping into a frigid body of water screams "Happy New Year!" Just make sure you’re being safe and doing it with a group of people...and ya have towels at the ready, natch.
