13 ways to start the year off right

2012 is almost over, and 2013 is right around the corner. And we couldn’t be more excited: a new year, a new beginning and a totally new you. Come January 1st, get ready to kick it into high gear, because 2013 is going to be the best year yet. Set goals- Make your New Year’s Resolution be something you really want. Dying to make varsity? Work to make it happen.

Reward yourself

All you need is a little motivation. Set up milestones to help you meet your goal. Trying to lose a minute off your mile time? Every time you drop 15 seconds, take yourself out for a treat (maybe buy that cute tote you’ve been ogling).

Drink more water

You would be amazed how much energy you will gain from just a little bit of water. Not to mention a completely clear complexion…

Challenge yourself

Give yourself something to be proud of. Don’t let everything be easy and work hard to succeed. So when you look back on the year, you realize you accomplished everything you wanted to.

Follow the Food Pyramid

Take your health a priority, so cut down on sugary sweets and load up on fruits and veggies.

Exercise an hour every day

You want to look and feel your best year round. Exercise will improve your mood, appearance, and immune system while giving you a boost of energy. And we could all use a little bit of that.

Share your resolutions

You’re more likely to get them done if you let your friends know what you’re working for. Plus you’ll have someone to celebrate with when you succeed.

Carry hand sanitizer

Don’t miss out on anything because you’re sick. Hand sanitizer kills 99.9 percent of germs, reducing your chances of catching a bug.

Set aside time for yourself
We can all become a little run down, but taking an hour to curl up with your fave book once or twice a week will help you recover and help you get going the next day.
Cut down on T.V.

We can’t miss an episode of Pretty Little Liars, either, but limit your time on the couch to an hour a day. With all your extra time you can hang with friends, work out and study.

Schedule events and plan ahead

Sign up for a 5k and maybe an open water swim this summer with some gal pals. They’re so much fun that you won’t forget it (and you will have to work out to prepare for them).

Sleep more
We underestimate the power of sleep. Boost energy, grades and mood with just an extra hour or two. Set a time for bed so you get those critical 8 or 9 hours.

Try something new

It’s time to make some changes! Try out a new sport, perhaps squash? Mix up your routine: rollerblade instead of run for your cardio. You might find something you love and the more you love it, the more you’ll want to do it.
