In the News: Exercise really does calm you down

Still feelin’ a little too lazy to hit the gym? Just in case, here’s yet another reason why working out should be a priority. Exercise actually proves to generate an overall happier attitude, and is the perfect stress reliever. Studies show that working out will help you handle your stresses and keep you away from depression.

Recently, over 250 young boys and girl participated in an experiment to find out the mental effects of exercise. For four days, the parents would account for their child’s levels of cortisol, a hormone released when you’re stressed. The kids were then given a psychosocial stress test where the scientist saw that the inactive children had high cortisol levels, and the active children had no rise in cortisol levels. Also, the active kids stayed calmer during minor stressful situations.

Too much homework, exams, spring musical auditions… they can all make you a little stressed out. Sometimes it really is beneficial to just step back and take a break, and working out is the perfect way to do that. Besides, now you know that it actually will make you less stressed and able to handle the world. Try these quick and easy exercises to help you with your stress levels.
