Go you! Kids are grabbing more fruits and veg in school cafeterias

Adolescents get a pretty bad rap when it comes to eating healthy foods. Case in point? The government gave their eating guidelines a big-time boost in 2012 to make sure you guys were getting at least close to your 5-a-day.

Well, it seems to be working. A new study from the Harvard School of Public Health checked into food waste from kid’s school lunches at low-income schools and discovered that you lot are eating more fruits and veggies! The analyses of waste from around 1,030 students found that fruit selection increased from 52.7 percent to 75.7 percent, and veggie selection increased from 24.9 percent to 41.1 percent, per Tech Times.

The downside? While you’re picking more produce, you’re also throwing more out. Health experts are using this evidence to call on schools to improve the quality of the produce they offer.

What do you think your school’s cafeteria could do to get you to eat more fruits and vegetables?
