    What: Tea tree oil

Where: NOW Foods Pure Tea Tree Oil, $6, amazon.com

Desert Essence Tea Tree Oil Facial Cleansing Pads, $8, desertessence.com

    Burt’s Bees Herbal Blemish Stick, $8, burtsbees.com

Australian Bodycare Tea Tree Oil, $9, feelunique.com

Lush Tea Tree Water, $10, lushusa.com

Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash, $12, thebodyshop-usa.com

Why: We know, we know: Won’t putting oil on oily skin just cause more painful pimples? Actually, no! Some oils do the exact opposite and clear your clogged pores. Tea tree oil has powerful antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties, meaning buh-bye acne.

It’s proven to reduce redness and treat acne as effectively as benzoyl peroxide with less harmful side effects. Be careful, though, because it can be strong and cause your skin to dry out. So, be sure to either dilute it with water or—more effectively—jojoba oil before applying it to the affected area, or buy a cream or wash that has tea tree oil as one of its prime ingredients. Hint: it can also help with ingrown hairs!

Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil, $16, sephora.com

100% Natural Argan Oil by Natural Beauty Brand, $20, amazon.com

Why: Do you have skin that’s dry, not cracking? Are your locks stiff and dull, not flaking? Do you have the occasional pimple, not the never-goes-away acne? This is where argan oil comes in.

Argan oil (aka Moroccan oil or ‘Liquid Gold’) is a moisturizing, healing and conditioning oil that’s not so much a direct target to skin and hair problems, but helps prevent them and soothe the occasional flare up. It’s great at taming frizzy hair, repairing damaged hair, moisturizing and soothing skin and healing acne. It can be used as a gentle lip balm or cuticle softener. Use it as a quick facial before applying makeup.
