How to wake up happy in five simple steps

 

It’s not always easy to be bright eyed and bushy tailed first thing in the morning. Sometimes it’s impossible, but before you hit snooze for the billionth time, try checking out our five tips for having an awesome morning.

1. Unplug
It’s understandable to want to scroll through Instagram right when you wake up, but unplugging for just fifteen minutes can come with some great benefits, including having a more productive—and less stressful—morning. We’re not saying ditch social media all day, but use this technology-free time as you time. Curl up in bed and read a chapter of your favorite book, or get moving with some yoga poses. After this, feel free to Snapchat to your heart's content, but you’ll find that this short time of no technology will leave you feeling more centered for the rest of the day.

2. Read daily affirmations
Nothing feels better than hearing you’re amazing, so why not tell yourself that every day? Reading daily affirmations not only leads you to live a more positive life, they can also help you accomplish your goals. Every morning, think about what you want to accomplish that day, whether it's getting an A on your history test or chatting up the cutie in your chem class, then picture it going great. 3. Plan ahead
Imagine you’re about to leave for school, but then you remember you completely forgot where you put your huge english paper that’s due today. So you’re rushing around trying to find it—and then you realize that there’s a stain on your shirt, too. Double stress. We’ve all had those mornings when everything seems to be going wrong, and they’re the worst. However, there’s an easy way to avoid them completely: Before going to bed, spend a half hour getting ready for the next day. Pick out your outfit, pack a lunch and make sure you have everything that you’ll need for tomorrow. That way, your morning will be much smoother, and you won’t have to worry about forgetting anything.

4. Make it fun
Waking up at 6 a.m. every morning can be anything but fun, but that doesn’t mean it has to be. Think of ways to make yourself excited to wake up every morning. They don’t need to be complicated. It can be as simple as making an Insta-worthy acai bowl for breakfast or picking out an ah-mazing OOTD. Doing easy things for yourself will make you more excited to get up in the morning, because you’ll have something to look forward to.

5. Go out and conquer the day!
The only person who decides whether or not you’re going to have a great day is you. So get ready, get positive and get out there!
