How to create a more accepting body image for summer

Most people love the pool or the beach, and that's when your bod might be on display a bit more than usual.

Social media trends and more in-person events might have an effect on your body image and mental health this summer. Feeling self-conscious is totally normal, but there are plenty of healthy ways to keep your mindset on track. It's important to check in with your mental health and wellness (especially rn).

Create a more accepting body image this summer with these 5 everyday essential steps!

1. Stick to a mantra

Whether you create a daily, weekly or seasonal mantra, stick to it! Find an inspirational affirmation or create your own depending on what you need. Positive affirmations can help motivate you to feel more confident in your body and boost your self-esteem. It's also a great way to help you find your own identity, especially as you're learning to love yourself.

2. Moving your body + getting outside = playtime

The key to a healthy body image is moving your body in ways that feel good for *you*. Exercise and physical activity don't have to be a headache. Consider thinking about it as playtime—how can you and your body have the most fun today? Maybe it's going for a long walk around a local lake at sunset, playing pickup volleyball or doing some morning yoga to start your day. Whatever you do, have fun!

3. Ask yourself: How can I honor my body today?

At the end of everyday, you're body will always be there. Start your days by asking yourself what you need. What type of food does your body want to eat? What outfit do you want to wear? What are today's ~vibes~? This is a super simple way to check-in with yourself, and if you find that you're not doing too hot, then it's time for some self-care.

4. You are *not* meant to fit into clothes—clothes are meant to fit you!

It's time to pull out your fave denim shorts for summer! If they're a little too tight in the wrong places or don't fit how they used to, that's okay! Our bodies are meant to change and develop over time. Wearing clothes that fit your body and your personality boost your confidence and self-esteem.

This is your sign to go on a summer shopping trip with your BFFs and find clothes that make you feel like the best version of yourself!

5. Surround your social circles with positive people

This includes social media and IRL friends. Unfollow and unfriend those that promote unhealthy beauty standards or don't make you feel good about yourself. Influence from others is a real thing. If you surround yourself with positive, confident and good vibes all summer long, you'll feel more poistive about yourself!

Remember: How you feel on the inside has an affect on how you see yourself in the mirror. If you feel strong and positive, then you'll see yourself in a more positive, accepting light. All bodies are beautiful bodies, GL girl!
