Unconventional workouts to try before summer ends

Feeling a little uninspired to hit the gym? Switch things up! Ditch the tredmill and dumbells and go for a workout that feels a lot less like "work" and more play. Whether you love being in the water or crave flexibility, there's a workout that's perfect for you (no matter your skill level). So, get out with the old and in with the new. Try one of these fun, unconventional activities to get your heart racing, blood pumping and muscles aching (in a good way, of course!).

Stand Up Paddle Boarding

Want a little adventure and challenge? Paddle boarding might be the thing for you. Think of this as surfing and kayaking melded into one. You have to balance on your board (and stay there), all while paddling your way through the water. It's a test of paitence, balance and endurance. The paddling will help tone up your arms, while the whole 'balancing on a board in the ocean' thing will help out with your legs, butt and core. By the time you are done paddling through the water, you'll be feeling the burn without a doubt! Plus, you can't beat the view on the water!

Aerial Yoga

You might have seen Troian Bellasario (aka Spencer from Pretty Little Liars) posting some intense but artsy workout pics and vids on Instagram lately. No, she's not just swinging around like Tarzan, she's actually doing Aerial Yoga (aka the antigravity workout!). Aerial yoga is a mix of traditional yoga and aerial aerobics using a hammock to balance. So, what's so fab about this exercise? You litterally work out your entire bod. Not to mention, studies have shown that this workout is linked to improoving memory and helps manage stress...how cool!

Parkour

Parkour? Yeah, we have one word for you: insane. Originating from military obstacle training, parkour once involved getting from point A to point B in the most efficent way possible. Now it involves looking super cool in the process. If you want to live out your childhood dream of being a ninja-spy, this is probably the workout for you. There's jumping, sliding, leaping and tumbling over railing, buildings, walls (you name it) and it’s all outdoors, usually in an urban environment. Think of an action movie, minues the stunt double. Careful, though! This “sport” can be dangerous if you’re not a master of your moves.

Dancing

Some of us wouldn’t consider dancing a work out but it totally is. Hip hop, salsa and cha cha dance classes are great for gals who don’t want to feel like they’re actually doing work when they’re workin’ out. Because you’re having so much fun moving and grooving to the beat of the music, you won’t even notice that you’re toning your tummy, butt, legs and getting a full cardio workout, too!
