TUESDAY Q-DAY: What's the deal on Strength-Training?

Q: I still don’t get what counts as strength training! Is it only weights or does yoga count, too?

A: Strength training is super-important for girls who wanna shape up. But it’s tough to do, if you’re not sure exactly, uh, what it is. We chatted up celeb trainer Torri Shack to bone up on what exactly counts as strength training.

“Strength training is anything where you’re using your muscles, aside from jogging or [other cardio],” Torri tells us. Stuff that counts? Any time you lift weights or use your body weight to exercise (think: lunges, squats, push-ups, sit-ups, etc.). Aim for three strength sessions a week. They don’t have to be super-long, either. Twenty minutes (with a 5 minute warm up and cool down). “Pilates and yoga are good for core stabilization and stretching, but  as far as getting in a tremendous amount of shape, your going to want to do some more  strength training like we’re talking about here,” Torri shares. Oh, and don’t forget the cadio!
