I'm so insecure about my spider veins!

What causes them? Can I do anything without having to see a doctor?
Spider veins—those small, pesky bursts of bluish-red lines—are the result of tiny blood vessels breaking just beneath the skin’s surface. They can show up anywhere—most often on your legs and face—and anytime, especially after puberty. There’s not much you can do on your own to get rid of them (pro treatments are pricey and aren’t recommended for teens). The good news, though, is that spider veins are harmless. Still, if you have any pain, swelling or irritation, get to a doc stat. It could be a varicose vein, which can lead to health probs.
