Sudden sensitivity to loud noises

Lately, mostly at school, I have been jumping or shuddering whenever a bell or noise goes off. It happens so often that people start to think that I am doing it on purpose even though I am not. How long will this last? Is there a cause for this or is it just me?

Sweetie, if this is a serious problem for you, you should definitely see your physician for a check-up. A sudden sensitivity to sound can be caused by lots of different things. Some are fairly simple. Stress, fatigue and anxiety might be magnifying the sounds around you, while an ear or sinus infection might be dulling quieter sounds, making loud noises particularly jarring.

Others, however, are more complex medical conditions, like tinnitus, hyperacusis, misophonia and hearing loss. While your sudden sensitivity could be easily cured, a quick visit to your doc will be helpful for ruling out continued hearing probs.

Good luck, babe!
