Your Bod

Do early bloomers run in the family?

I really want my period, but I haven’t gotten it yet. On my mom’s side of the family, girls tend to get it young. Does that mean I’ll get mine soon?
The age at which girls get their periods depends much more on their own bodies than on those of family members. While some, like the women in your family, tend to get them young, others get them when they’re older and still others (like me and my mom) get them at totally different times.
Studies show that genetics might have something to do with it, but there’s no hard-and-fast rule that’ll tell you when to expect Aunt Flo. Don’t be surprised if you get it earlier or later than your mom, aunts, grandmother or sister got it. And if you’re a few years behind (or ahead), don’t worry: There’s nothing weird about it!

We want to hear from you! Send us your weirdest body questions here (seriously, we'll answer anything!) and it just might get featured.
