Could I have a yeast infection?

For the past six months, I have been experiencing intense itching and burning “down there." I also have a white, thick discharge recently. What is wrong? Could this be a yeast infection?

Hate to break it to ya, babe, but intense itching and burning as well as white, cottage cheese-like discharge are the big symptoms of a yeast infection You might also experience redness and swelling around your vagina and vulva as well as pain while you pee. Not all symptoms have to be present, but you should definitely head to your doctor for a professional diagnosis and treatment.

Chances are your doc will need to do a pelvic exam to make sure you have a yeast infection, and will probably take a fluid sample. Once he (or she) knows for sure that a yeast infection is the culprit, you’ll be put on antifungal meds to clear it up. A yeast infection isn’t a big deal and it’s incredibly common, so you’ve got nothing to be embarrassed about. You just need to get it taken care of!
