Should I shave?

I’m not sure if I should shave or not. I’m only in sixth grade so I KNOW my friends will make fun of me if I do. My legs are hairy though, and it’s starting to get embarrassing. What should I do?

This decision affects you, not your friends, so who cares what they think? If your hair is getting a tad out of control, it’s probably best to start shaving. Your friends are going to start doing it sooner or later, but it just so happens that you’re getting a little head start.  Plus, it will make you feel more confident about yourself and give you an automatic self-esteem boost since you’re feeling self-conscious right now.

Since you don’t feel like you can talk to your friends about it, ask your mom, sister, aunt, older cousin or someone else who does it for the best way to get started. They’ll be able to give you a demonstration, and prep you with shaving cream and a razor.  Just remember, shave in the direction that the hair is growing in, and start with a clean, fresh razor.  You may accidentally nick yourself at first, but you’ll def get better at shaving as time goes on.

If you’re really worried about your friends, explain to them that you’re embarrassed about your legs and that this will make you feel better. You can let them know that if they’re your true friends, they wouldn’t make fun of you for this since it’s something you know will make you happier.  This should help them to understand why you’re doing it, and make them less likely to rag on you for it.  If they still won’t leave you alone about it, you have to think if these are people you really want to call your friends.
