Why is my voice changing? I thought that only happened to guys!

I'm 15 years old, and I definitely have hit puberty. When I talk, sometimes my voice gets high, like a young boy going through puberty. I don’t know why this happens. My brother makes fun of me, and it’s embarrassing when I'm talking to my friends. Why does my voice do this?

 

It’s typical for guys and girls to experience changes in their voice as they grow up. Boys, however, experience a much greater change than girls. Most chicas’ voices become just a smidge deeper, while boys’ can skip octaves!

 

What’s happening to your bod? All of this change is caused by your larynx. Before you hit puberty, it’s pretty small. But as hormones like testosterone start pulsing through your body, is begins to grow, making your vocal chords longer and thicker than they used to be. Since boys’ bodies produce more testosterone, they experience a greater change. As you get used to your maturing body, your voice might squeak or croak at really awkward times. There’s not a whole lot you can do about it right now, but rest easy, babe—this phase will be over soon!
