Does putting cucumber slices over your eyes do anything?

My friend and I were doing a spa party at her house, and she insisted we put cucumber slices over our eyes. Did that, uh, do anything, or is just as silly as it seems?

Prepare yourself for a shock, sistah, ‘cause your bud was right on the, er, veggie. You know those puffy bags under your eyes? Well, slices of cucumbers—and their magical chemical properties—can actually help reduce that inflammation. Cucumbers contain ascorbic acid and caffeic acid, both of which prevent water retention by drawing water out of your skin cells.

And, since the slices of cucumber are usually fresh from the refrigerator and cool as a result, they offer a one-two punch of inflammation-fighting goodness. The cold will help constrict dilated blood vessels, which will help ya beat puffiness and redness.
