3 ways to not be embarrassed about buying tampons

Tell me if this sounds familiar: That time of the month is comin’ up fast, you check your tampon stash and—ugh—your sis left the box empty! What’s a girl to do but run to the drug store, grab a box as fast as you can (before someone spots you staring at feminine hygiene products, obvi) and throw it on the counter…along with a pile of other stuff you so don’t need.

Yeah, yeah, we’ve all been there, done that. This year, let’s put that embarrassment behind us and own our monthly supply trip. OK, maybe not, but we can at least find a better way to get the job done, right? Here are our three favorite strategies for snagging period products on the sly.

Strategy #1: Text Mom, stat

You know you need them, you just don’t want to say it out loud, right? Solution: Do it by text. As soon as you make it to your locker in the a.m. (and no pesky boys are looking over your shoulder), send Mom a quick text (and be sure you’re actually sending it to Mom before ya hit “send”) to let her know you need them, like, now. Or, you know, after school. Done.

Strategy #2: Order ‘em online

A handy new web start-up called Le Parcel has come up with an ingenious service: For $15 a month, they will send you your favorite product (choose from Playtex, Tampax or Kotex, and tampons, pads and panty liners), plus chocolate and a prezzie to perk ya up during your period. You can even sync the shipping so ya get your goodies when your period is due.

Strategy #3: Be bold as brass

Walk into the drugstore, grab your girly items, head to the check-out counter and pay for ‘em. Hey, you’re a girl. Whoever’s behind that counter knew it was gonna happen eventually, right? Right.
Tell me, babes: What's your most embarrassing tampon story?

We want to hear from you! Send us your weirdest body questions here (seriously, we'll answer anything!) and it just might get featured.
