What’s mononucleosis? Is it really from kissing?

Infectious mononucleosis (better known as “mono”) is a viral disease…and, yes, you can get it from kissing because mono can be spread through saliva.

What are some symptoms? Mono usually brings on a fever, sore throat, swollen glands and extreme fatigue. Usually, the only treatment necessary is lots of rest. Mono is pretty rare, so don’t worry about kids all over school being infected.

But here’s the real bummer—the virus can hang in the throat up to a year after symptoms clear. Hey, holding hands is nice!
