Eat Right

Drop the salt

Drop the salt shaker, girl. According to WebMD, researchers have found that if teens start cutting just half a teaspoon of salt from their diets every day, they can prevent heart attacks and strokes significantly.

Pretty scary, huh? Well if you’ve ever known anyone who has suffered a stroke or a heart attack, you know what’s at stake here. Both heart attacks and strokes can leave you permanently disabled or worse. So we need to take care of our bodies now and eat right in order to avoid these medical scares down the road.

About 80 percent of the salt we consume comes from processed or prepared foods (as in junk food). Think about all the cereals, pastries and especially pizza you and your friends consume—they all  contribute to this high salt intake. Start doing some research on what you’re eating and staying away from foods that are high in sodium.

So start saying no to those super-salty snacks, girls! You’ll feel better now, and one day it just might save your life.
