5 reasons you should join theatre right now

Chances are you're already involved in a LOT of after-school activities—what student isn't these days? And while they'll all undoubtedly look fabulous on your college apps for one reason or another, let's be honest: There's nothing like theatre. Read on for the five reasons you should get on the stage, like, yesterday.

1. You learn to deal with rejection.

Whether or not we want to hear it, we’re all going to face some kind of rejection at some point in our lives. Not getting to be Maria in The Sound of Music might be rough, but once you've learned to handle disappointment, you begin to embrace ensuing opportunities (hey, you're the perfect Liesl!)—and that is an awesome real-world skill.

2. You'll be a better team player.

Set designers, costume creators, cast, directors...you're all working together as a team to produce a fabulous final product. And if anyone in the team slacks off, well...prepare for not-so rave reviews. (It's just like life in that way...)

3. It brings real meaning to the word "dedication."

The further you get into a show, the longer and more frequent your rehearsals will get. You may be stressed at first, trying to juggle extracurriculars with homework and your social life, but all that time backstage will teach you some serious time management skills. Plus, the feeling when the show goes off without a hitch? Pure bliss.

4. It’ll give you killer confidence

Stepping outside of your comfort zone may be terrifying, but it’s by far the best way to show yourself just how talented and capable you are. #GoYou!

5. TBH, it's just really fun and rewarding

Need we give you another reason to get your High School Musical on ASAP? Putting on a show is a great time and gives you a great sense of accomplishment—action!

Have you participated in theatre? If you haven’t, is it something you’ll try this year? Let us know in the comments!
