Parody of a Smile

I watch you from the corner,
I can see it in your eyes,
You don't want to be here,
But still you smile and wave goodbye.

Once they can't see you,
The mask shifts out of place,
And now your look is genuine,
Your facade is betrayed by your face.

I'm glad you trust me enough,
To show me who you are,
But still I feel so lonely
Because I'm the only one who can see through to your heart.

It's like I have X-Ray vision,
I can look right into your mind,
You're hiding behind a window,
Why is everyone else so blind?

You are a burden I cannot share,
If only they'd look for a while,
If only they'd stop, take a moment to care,
They'd see that all you have is a parody of a smile.
