Hangin' with Good Luck Charlie's Jason Dolley

You may know him from Disney Channel’s Corey in the House, but this spring the 18-year-old’s slipping into another funny role as easy-going PJ Duncan on Good Luck Charlie (check it out this Sunday at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT when it premieres on the Disney Channel).

We got to hang with Jason on the show’s L.A. set and questioned him on everything from his favorite jam to growing up without any sisters in the house. Check it out…

GL: You’re taking on a new role in an awesome new Disney Channel sitcom. What are you looking forward to most about your latest gig?
Jason: What’s fun about starting a new show is that you’ll learn things about your character throughout the years. In Cory in the House, I’d learn all things about Newt—he could braid, he could Irish step dance—so I’m really looking forward to learning all these intricate quirks about PJ.

Are you like PJ at all?
PJ’s not quite as “thinky” as I am. He really just kind of goes with the flow and doesn’t take a lot of time to think about things really deeply. And that’s probably the biggest difference between us. We both love music. He loves playing his guitar; I like to think that I’m a little bit better than he is. I have to kind of like, you know, play bad on purpose when I’m playing for PJ.

In real life, you have three older brothers. What’s it like growing up with no sisters in the house?
It’s a bit of a Dolley family joke that we don’t make girls. It’s 10 boys in the past three generations. We have not had a girl Dolley, in [the past] 10 kids. So it’s just kind of second nature. It’s just something in our brains. It’s just a very male-driven family I guess.

If you were to have a little sister, what advice would you give her about boys?
I have always wanted to be the over-protective older brother. Honestly, I would probably tell her to be careful. Usually it’s innocent, but misunderstandings between boys and girls can sometimes be bitter. So take things slow with boys because they’re usually trying to take things slow as well.

What’s the sweetest thing you’ve ever done for your parents?
They have yet to use it, but for Christmas last year I gave them both what I call “You Days,” which they have me for the day and can do whatever they want.

We’re totally putting together our must-have playlist for spring. What is the number one song on your iPod right now?
“Mr. Jones” by Counting Crows.  That’s my favorite song, whole world, best band, favorite band, everything. I’m not sure what prompted it, but I’ve sort of gotten into like classical music and soundtracks. I bought some of the soundtrack from Dark Knight and music like that, so there are those kinds of orchestral, classical music that I listen to right now [too].

Be sure to catch Jason when Good Luck Charlie premieres TOMORROW at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on the Disney Channel.
