Throw a Green Gala!

Recycling, re-using and eliminating should be your main focus this Earth Day. But that doesn’t mean you have to get serious and nix the fun.
Get your girls on board with eco-friendly tactics by hosting a totally green par-tay! You’ll have tons of fun and you can feel good about it!
Eco-Chic Callouts
Make cute and personal invitations using recycled paper. Really get creative and think outside the box by gathering your old magazines, newspapers, cards, wrapping paper scraps, even used envelopes from opened mail. You’ll get the message across that you believe saving the earth is important right off the bat. Oh, and don’t forget the Who, What, When, Where and Why! (Plus, make sure to ask all guests to walk, bike or carpool to your event!)

Not feeling creative? Hop online and send out an evite to all your friends at evite.com. No paper wasted and a total piece o’ cake.

Back to the Basics
Looking for a way to get green decorations for the party? Why not use your green backyard? Completely natural, it’s the perf location for your gala, plus warmer weather guarantees a great time.

Instead of buying plastic tablecloths (totally not earth-friendly), use linen cloths, which can be washed and reused. Or, why not go totally rustic and toss the tablecloths all together. If you have a table made of wood, the vibe totally blends in with Mama Nature! Also, forgo the plastic utensils and cups and ask your ‘rents if you could use their everyday silverware and dishes.

Go natural with pretty flower centerpieces. Instead of buying flowers from the grocery store, which can be enhanced with chemicals, use potted plants around your house for décor. The foliage will be a great way to enhance the “go green” vibe of your party.
Go Organic
Think food can’t be green? Think again! Stock up on organic fruits and veggies that everyone is sure to love as starters. This way, guests can nibble on healthy and delish finger foods while they mingle.

Bust out the grill and get your dad to grill up some organic turkey burgers and tofu hotdogs. Hormone free, no additives and antibiotic free, you will feel good knowing your meat is safe to eat, and the animals it came from weren’t poorly treated.

For dessert, make some gluten-free, vegan cupcakes. Boxed mixes can be found at the grocery store and contain little to no preservatives or chemicals. Want extra moist cupcakes? Add a few tablespoons of applesauce to the batter!

Earth-Friendly Favors
Have soda at your party? Instead of recycling the aluminum after guests are finished sipping, have everyone take it one step further and reuse ‘em. Go to your local garden store (before the party) and pick up an assortment of herb seeds, like basil, cilantro, or parsley and organic soil.

Have adults help cut the tops off of the aluminum soda cans, fill them about 3/4th of the way with the organic soil, stick a few seeds in the soil (it will tell you how many on the package) and cover with more soil. Water and voila!

In a few weeks, you and all your guests will have your very own herbs. Don’t forget to have everyone label their cans so they can know what’s growing in each. This way, your friends will have something fun they can take home with them to remind them of the importance of living green.

Remember, small changes make big differences!
