My mom is having money trouble!

My parents have been divorced since I was four years old. My mom has to pay for a lot, because my dad often refuses to pay for my siblings and I. The other day I overheard my orthodontist talking to my mom about how my dad hasn’t been paying the bills.

My mom is really stressed out. When I told my friends, they asked their parents for money to help me out. I hate that I am a charity case to them, and I hate that my mom has to deal with everything alone. What can I do?
Hey girl,
This is a toughy, I’m really sorry to hear you’re in this situation hon!
Talk to a Counselor
I would first talk to a trusted adult, other than you mom like a counselor who will have or know of the resources to help you. If its possible she or someone else she knows, may be able to help and have a sit down with your parents and at least try and get them to compromise.
It’s really not fair what your dad is going. I think it might be best, (if its okay with your mom first), to get another person involved in this deal. But make sure it doesn’t put any more pressure on your mother cause that’s also very important!
Be Positive
Just know this isn’t about you. I’m sure your father loves you very much. Sometimes after a divorce people are so stressed they do things that they consciously don’t think of them as hurting others. So don’t take this personally, really.
It will be okay girl, keep your head high! Again, I’m really sorry you have to deal with this! Remember you’re a strong person!
xoxox,
Lauren R.
