My parents wont let me date! I'm 14 and ALL my friends have BFs except me. I really like this guy, and he likes me back. My parents know him and think he's nice but still say I am too yong to date. I have already tried a secret relationship behind my parents' back and it didn't work out, so I don't want to do that again. Help!
Hey girl! If all your friends jumped off a bridge, would you? I know it feels like you are missing out on something big by not having a boyfriend, but rest assured that you have your whole life to have boyfriends. Going behind your parents back is a sure way for you to not date for a long time, so read on and find out what you can do.
Have a heart to heart
Talk to your parents about their reasons for not letting you date. Make sure you really listen to them and try to put yourself in their shoes as parents. Once they’ve told you how they feel, talk to them about how you feel. Tell them you feel left out and that you really like a guy who likes you back.
Try a compromise
So your parents still don’t want you dating after you talk to them. See if they will let you go out with him with a group of friends to the movies. Ask your parents if he can come over for dinner one night. There are ways you can still see him without him being your boyfriend.
Have fun
Remember, you have your whole life ahead of you to date. Use this time to focus on yourself and your friends. Develop a good relationship with your girlfriends and they will be there for you forever. Before you know it, your parents will be telling you that you can date.
