My Period is Out of Control

I know irregular periods are normal, but I’ve had mine for over a year now, and its not just irregular, it’s REALLY irregular! I’ll have it for month straight, and then not have it for a month. Then I’ll have it for a week, be period-free the next week, and then have it for another two weeks.
I haven’t had it for five weeks now. Sometimes it’s very heavy and can fill up a "super absorbency" tampon in 20 or 30 minutes. What is going on?
Things can seem really nutty when you first start getting your period. It can be early or late, light or heavy, and it’s hard to know what’s normal. But if you’re experiencing a month-long period, that’s probably not normal. Best idea is to make a quick visit to your doc and have things checked out.

A little bit of abnormality is OK, but if ya wanna be stress-free, it sounds like you should see if your doctor has some insight into why things are so erratic with your not-so-friendly monthly visitor.
