We Tried It: Mixing up indoor workouts during the holidays

Here's the secret to busting that laziness that grips lots of us during icy cold months: living-room workouts. It happens every year, the holidays roll around and we spend our time off from school gorging on seasonal treats or spaced out in front of the tube. No more.

I’m staying active and on track all the way through the end of 2010 with a ton of new workouts. It's simple: start off every day with a different routine. One day I’m focusing on toning my legs with squats, lunges, and calf raises. The next, working my core with planks, crunches, "V-sits" and cardio. Then I’ll try out killer cardio with mountain climbers and invisible jump ropes or a fun dance routine.

I love working out at home when the weather gets chilly. And even though it’s easy to say “I’m too busy to exercise” during the crazy busy holidays, sneaking in some time for a sweat sesh will make you feel amazing.

You can make up your own routine, find some that you like online or rent some DVDs from the library (or check to see if you can get some free "on demand" from your cable provider!). It's okay to take a little break over the holidays, so they don't need to be super strenuous. I’m aiming to get a half hour in every day.
