My period always soaks through

Whenever I put on pads, once I sit down, they scrunch up and I end up bleeding around them. Once, I bled through my pads, underwear and my pants! I was at school, so it was mortifying. Is it normal for it to be THIS heavy on the first day?

When it comes to periods, your body has a mind of its own. What’s “normal” for one gal may be totally different for the next. For most, the heaviest days are usually somewhere between days one and three.

Pads, no doubt, can be kinda a pain. Handling worries of leakage, not to mention how uncomfortable they can be, is no walk in the park. Next time you wear a pad, try one with “wings.” These side flaps will hold it in place (hopefully). If you’ve got a heavy flow, make sure to get one that’s extra long and a li’l thicker: It should say “heavy” on the package.

When you’re ready, it’s def worth considering tampons. As long as you change them when the box says, you’ll spend your day a bit more stress-free. Unfortunately, there’s always a chance of leakage when you have your monthly visitor, so stop by the restroom when you’ve got a chance to make sure everything’s A-OK or wear a panty liner or pad in addition as backup. Another hint: wear dark undies and bottoms. That way, if there’s a leak, you’ll be sure to know before your classmates.
