Throw a tree-trimming party

My best friend looks for any excuse she can find to get the gang together. So every year without fail, once the Christmas tree is placed in her living room, all of us girls are invited over to deck the boughs. It’s a festive way to gather your girls for idle chitchat, photo opps and memory-making while ya string popcorn and hang ornaments.

Here’s how we do it…

Come one, come all!

No matter how old we get, we all love receiving my BFF’s party invites. They’re more kindergarten-chic than grown-up, and that’s just the way we like it. Each year is a variation on a theme: the Christmas tree. All ya have to do is cut a tree out of green construction paper and decorate it. One year, my bud used fuzzy pompoms as ornaments. Another, she glitzed it up with faux rhinestones. On the opposite side of the tree, she writes out the party info in metallic sharpie.

Get organized before the doorbell rings.

When your friends arrive, you don’t want to be scramblin’ around trying to find your ornaments, right? Be prepared before they knock on the door. Bring out the ornaments and other tree décor, set up snacks and drinks, and pick out your party tunes beforehand. If you need some help, ask one or two close friends to come over early to pull boxes down from the attic or set up snacks.

Add a dose of DIY.

Why not have your girls make some ornaments of their own during the party? Go old school with macaroni-noodle picture frames or try our popcorn and cranberry garland for a homemade, traditional look.

Gotta have munchies!

No party is complete without an array of snacks to keep your tummies in check. Keep it seasonal with apples and caramel dip, homemade trail mix and Christmas-colored sweets. If you’re in the mood for fizz, snag a few bottles of sparkling apple cider and propose a toast…to the best girls on the block!

Tell us, girls: What parties are you planning this holiday season?
