How to make LGBT friends

I'm a 13-year-old bisexual girl (who's still mostly in the closet) and I want to get to know other LGBTs.
My mom says that she doesn't want to sign me up for LGBT groups yet and I don't know any LGBT kids, so how do I get to know other people like me?

Hey girl! First of all, way to get out there—I know how tough it must be to not be totally out of the closet, but want to find support in other LGBT kids. I understand that those groups could be very beneficial to answer any questions you have.

First, I think you should have a discussion with your mom about why you feel these groups would be helpful to you, so that she understands your reasoning. If your mom still does not want to sign you up yet, ask when she feels you will be ready to attend the groups. If she thinks you should wait until you’re older, pick a time at a later date when you can discuss this again.

In the meantime, there are online communities which you can check out and have questions answered. Try this one: Queer Attitude.
