To Change the World: An original poem

To Change The World: A Dream (Or The Girl Looking Out Her Window)

The girl looking out her window
at the snowy landscape and the sun
has a spirit inside.
It started small,
but like a wave it grew and grew.
Swelling until it was thought to be full,
a cup
with molten shine poured inside.
It was a spirit, a desire,
a dream.
To do what?
To change the world.
Every time the girl looking out her window
saw, or heard, or read something
about those in need,
the spirit grew.
She thought.
She thought that she had to make a worldwide difference,
do something to help
children in Haiti, or
people in Africa who don't have enough to eat.
The girl looking out her window
was saddened by all the injustice,
but she didn't know
how she, just a girl, could possibly make it better.
She thought her spirit was full,
and she almost gave up.
She almost gave up
on her dream, her will, her spirit, her desire.
But a revelation came
like a golden light
illuminating the darkest corner.
The girl looking out her window
realized she didn't have to help people thousands of miles away
to change the world.
She could do it in her own town.
In fact, she was.
So her spirit continued to grow
with every life she made better,
giving food, clothes, shelter
in her community.
And the truth is,
the spirit was never full.
It never will be.
Love for others will continue to grow,
illuminate all the corners of the world,
fill up all the cups and spill over the brims.
And a dream was fulfilled
for the girl looking out her window.
