Four simple ways to reach out

I’ll be the first to admit it: I sometimes get too caught up in work, school, extra curriculars and stress. And don’t even get me started on email and Facebook. But one thing’s for sure, I am definitely not alone. That’s right, girlies, I’m calling you out too!

Just to mix things up, let’s try to connect to each other a bit more and interact with something besides our computer screens. What do you say?

Here are just a couple ways we can start.

1. Say at least one nice thing to someone every day
Remember how you felt like a million bucks when that fashionista in math class complimented your outfit last week? Or when your buddy in art told you your painting was the best? Share the wealth, girl! Complimenting just one person could totally make their day. And who knows, maybe they’ll pass the positive energy on to someone else…who passes it on to someone else…you get the idea.

2. Raise your hand at least once in class
Let’s be honest, class participation can sometimes be a pain. It’s kinda embarrassing speaking up, no? But really, what’s the worst that could happen? You could get the answer wrong, but chances are you weren’t the only one thinking it. Not too bad, huh? It’s a tough at first, but once you get used to it (and you will get used to it), speaking up will be a piece of cake.

3. Talk in person
With the Internet and phones, keeping in touch is way easy. But when it comes to having a real conversation, messaging and texting don’t quite make the mark. Here’s an idea: Talk to someone in person for a change. Whether you make time to chit-chat with your besties after school or just ask Mom how her day was, face-to-face interaction is something we all could use a pinch more of.

4. Write a (love) letter
Think about it. When was the last time you wrote a letter? Not an email or a card, but an actual handwritten letter. Can’t remember? Me neither. Sure, it takes a little longer, but go ahead and send your BFF, your BF or even your grandma an ol’ fashioned letter via snail mail. Let ‘em know how much you appreciate them. Trust me, it’ll mean SO much more than your latest text.
