My Friend - An original poem

Hey sweethearts! Here is an original poem by a GL reader just like you. Please leave your critiques in the comments.

My Friend

I drown in the silence

I'm torn but I push ahead

Ignoring everyone.

I lie awake at night wondering when

They will notice me.

A tear slips. I brush it away angrily
“Why are you crying?” I ask myself.

“They never have and never will notice.”

I try to push them from my thoughts

While I stare blankly at the wall.

Everyone is against me

Another tear falls.

I don't stop it this time

I let it flow down my face.

Locked away where no one can see me

I sit and cry, wondering who cares

You come and find me

“It will all work out,” you say

“It doesn't matter what they think”

I feel a little bit better

“I think you're the best,” you reassure me,

“And that's what matters”

I stop crying and stand up.

My strength comes rushing back.

I'm ready to face the world
But only because I have

My friend.
