3 tasty Independence Day desserts

Makeover those festive, Fourth of July treats. Instead of whipping up red, white and blue cupcakes, why not use the best berries of the season to create some treats your friends and fam will remember? Here are three of our faves.

Patriotic Parfaits
For these yummy patriotic parfaits, all you need is a cup of vanilla yogurt, a ½ cup of granola, and some berries to add that Fourth of July feel. Start by pouring half of the yogurt into a large cup, layer some granola on top, then place the patriotically-colored fruit over that. Do this once more so that you have built a few layers and used up all the ingredients.  When it’s all done, sprinkle a spoonful of shaved coconut on top for some extra goodness.
Fab Fourth Fro-yo
What you’ll need for this healthy treat: Vanilla or coconut frozen yogurt and as many red and blue berries you can get your hands on. Don’t forget to put out some other toppings, like graham cracker crumbles and shaved dark chocolate. Lay out the ingredients sundae-bar-style and get your creative juices flowing. Have a contest with your Fourth of July party guests: Who can make the kookiest American sundae?

Tres festive trifle
This Fourth of July treat is totally delish and it only takes four ingredients: Angel food cake, vanilla pudding, Cool Whip and fruit. Start by finding a clear glass or crystal bowl; use a trifle bowl if you have one. Layer some angel foodcake along the bottom (we found ours at a local grocery store). Smooth some vanilla pudding on top. In this first layer toss on some fruit, try strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries for a festive touch. On top of the fruit, make a layer of Cool Whip. Repeat by adding more angel food, then more pudding, then fruit and cool whip. Add a top layer of fruit; this time, organize them in a pretty pattern. Talk about fireworks.
