My friend bullies me about my boobs!

I have a friend who is one year younger than me, but her bra size is maybe 1 or 2 sizes bigger than me. She always makes fun of me for having small breasts, and I say it isn't really my fault... is it? How can I make her leave me alone?

Hey girl, I’m sorry your friend is being such a downer. Growing up is hard enough without your friend making you self-conscious. Fact is, everyone develops at their own pace, and it’s just as awkward to get boobs early as it is to be a late bloomer.

It’s not okay for your friend to put you down, even if she’s just joking around. You need to be straightforward and honest, and tell her clearly that her comments are hurtful. It sounds like she might be working through her own issues—having big boobs can be hard, especially if she’s younger. She might just be embarrassed by her own figure, so be as sensitive to her insecurities as you’d like her to be for you.

And as for it being your fault, don’t be silly! The way your body is proportioned is entirely due to genetics. If your mom is flat-chested, for example, you’re much more likely to have smaller breasts. And depending how old you are, there’s still a big chance of boob growth later on. Unless you’re not eating healthfully, there’s really not anything you can do to speed up the process. Until you make it through puberty, try to become comfortable with your body and develop high self-esteem by surrounding yourself with positive people – and if you’re friend can’t be supportive, try and find some considerate chicas. Good luck sweetie!
