Self-conscious about my maturing bod

My sister is making me really self-conscious by pointing out how my body is maturing. She started talking about my hips the other day, and says that they’re jutting out. She keeps commenting on how awkward I am, and now all I can think about is how I look. Help me get out of this rut!

All girls go through the “awkward” stage your sister is so kindly informing you of, so while you might not be comfy with your ever-changing body image, you shouldn’t be concerned about your growing bod. The hallmark phases of puberty include increasing hip prominence and the growth of breasts.

Do yourself a favor and take a look at your body in the mirror. Run your hands over your new-found curves and see for yourself how your body is changing. And embrace it! These changes mean that you’re transforming from a child into a young woman. It’s time to ignore your sister’s disparaging remarks and highlight the good points of your body, yourself. More prominent hips flatter your waist and help you fill out your jeans. They’re a good thing. Once you start viewing them that way, the awkwardness you see now will disappear.

Good luck, babe!
