Calling all knit wits: Help a penguin out!

An oil spill off the coast of Tauranga, New Zealand, has put the lives of area penguins in jeopardy. Wildlife rescuers have asked Skeinz, a New Zealand yarn store, for help. Their task? To knit sweaters for penguins. No joke. Sweaters. For penguins.

 

The sweaters are meant to stop oil-covered penguins from preening their feathers and thus ingesting the oil. Skeinz has put the word out on the ‘net, and since penguins are so ah-dorable—even more so while wearing sweaters—the mission has gone viral.
